How Can You Tell When these Baked Beans Are Done?
Since we’re using canned beans for this recipe, really all you need to do is warm the ingredients up. So, even though the flavor will get better as these beans cook together with the beef, bacon and bbq sauce, they’re really “done” after a few hours of warming through.
But do let these crock pot baked beans go the full 6 hours if you have the time to let them cook, because the flavor will be so much better.
Can I Make This Baked Beans Recipe On The Stove Top Or In The Oven?
Yep. This is the most flexible side dish recipe ever.
Stove Top Instructions:
Add all the ingredients (ground beef already browned) to a large pot or dutch oven. Stir together to combine and let the beans simmer for at least an hour until warmed though. Keeping the beans on low heat until your ready or even during your party will only make them taste better!

Cover the pot with a lid or tightly with foil and place in the oven for 1-2 hours, stirring during cooking. Keep the baked beans in the oven on low (200-250) to keep warm until ready to serve and/or during your party.

- 3 (41 oz.) cans baked beans
- 1 (15 oz.) can red kidney beans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1 (2.6 oz) package Lipton Onion Soup Mix
- 1 lb. ground beef, browned and grease drained
- 1 lb. bacon, cooked until crisp and chopped
- Place all ingredients in a slow cooker.
- Stir and cook on low setting for 6 hours or on high setting for 3.
- Keep warm until ready to serve.
