Why We Love These Teriyaki Salmon Bites

If you’re looking for an easy salmon recipe, you’ve come to the right place. These Teriyaki Salmon Bites only take 15 minutes, minus the time for marinating! Seared in a skillet until crispy and tossed with a flavorful sauce.

We love serving these salmon bites with rice and a vegetable on the side like this broccoli on the side. I’m telling you guys, if you’re looking to get your kids to eat more fish, this is the recipe that will do it!

Ingredients You Need

Just a few ingredients and you’ll be on your way to a delicious, 15 minute seafood dinner! For a complete list of ingredients and amounts needed, scroll down to the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Salmon: Get a thicker salmon filet to make the cubes the size you see here. Other than that, I’ll leave the farm raised and wild caught argument up to you.
  • Garlic Paste: I’m not sure how many of you know about these tubes of garlic paste that you can find in the produce section (usually by the fresh herbs) at your grocery store. The garlic paste won’t burn like fresh minced garlic would, especially when you’re searing at a higher temperature.
  • Ginger Paste: Same as the garlic paste. Squeeze it into the marinade and you’re on your way without peeling or grating fresh ginger!
  • Soy Sauce: Soy sauce always adds tons of flavor to Asian inspired recipes like these salmon bites.
  • Teriyaki Baste & Glaze: One of our favorite ingredients to use on salmon, this also helps thicken up the marinade.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil: This oil has a delicious, nutty flavor that goes perfectly in this salmon bite recipe.
  • Chili Garlic Paste: Also found in the Asian aisle at the grocery store, it has a mild garlic spice so you only need a little bit! You can also swap in sriracha if you like.

How To Make Salmon Bites

This salmon recipe is so easy to make, we’ll take you through it in just a few steps here. For complete instructions head to the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Marinate: Mix the ingredients together for the marinade and then marinate the salmon for a 30 minutes to an hour in the refrigerator. Remove the salmon from the marinade and set the cubes onto paper towels to dry slightly.
  • Sear: Add oil to a large skillet over high heat and then add the salmon cubes in a single layer, leaving room around each piece of fish so that the cubes sear properly. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • Add sauce and garnish: Toss the seared salmon with the reserved marinade, letting it thicken and reduce for a minute. Top with sesame seeds and scallions and serve.

Can You Make Salmon Ahead Of Time?

You can definitely make these salmon bites ahead of time and reheat them them the microwave. Although we do love the crispiness that you get on the salmon when you first make it, reheating the salmon will work just fine.

Do try to make this salmon recipe right before eating to get that crispy, seared deliciousness that we love. But if you do end up with leftovers, reheating them will work just fine.

Some Side Dish Ideas

As far as I’m concerned, any vegetable will do. As long as you’re getting your veg in, go ahead and eat what you like. Of course, we’ll give you a few ideas here, too!

Can I Use Another Type Of Fish?

While salmon is the preferred fish for this recipe, you can substitute other types of firm, mild fish. Haddock, mahi mahi, grouper and halibut are all great options. Try a few different kinds and see what your crowd likes best!

I’m telling you guys, if you’re trying to get salmon into your weekly meals, this recipe is the one to do it with. We’ve tested these salmon bites on quite a few younger kids and they all loved them. (Parents have been amazed…hold the applause!)

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds salmon, cut into cubes, skin removed (try and get thicker filets so that you can cut larger size cube. Refer to the pictures in the post for reference on the size.)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (can also use avocado oil or canola oil)

For The Marinade:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki baste & glaze (a thick sauce, found by the soy sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste or finely minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste or finely minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 12 teaspoons chili garlic sauce or sriracha
  • Sesame seeds and chopped scallions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut the salmon into 1 1/2 to 2 inch cubes. Add the salmon to a large bowl or resealable bag.
  2. Add the ingredients for the marinade into a bowl, whisking together to combine. Reserve 1/4 cup of the marinade and set aside. Pour the remaining marinade over the salmon cubes. Toss to combine and refrigerate for 30 minutes to an 1 hour.
  3. Remove the salmon from the marinade and place onto paper towels to dry slightly.
  4. Add oil to a large skillet over high heat and then add the salmon cubes in a single layer, leaving room around each piece of fish so that the cubes sear properly. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side (depending on how large your salmon cubes are) and then remove to a plate and cover with foil. Repeat with the remaining salmon cubes, if needed, depending on the size of your skillet.
  5. Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet while still hot and let reduce for 1 minute. Add the salmon back into the skillet and toss gently to combine with the sauce. Top with sesame seeds and scallions and serve immediately.

Recipe Notes

Store: Store leftover salmon in a container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheat: Reheat salmon bites in the microwave until just warmed through. Alternately, an air fryer will crispy the salmon up again wonderfully.
