Should I Make This Salmon Recipe In The Oven Or On The Grill?

It’s grilling season right now, but sometimes you still need a few recipes that you can make in the oven for rainy days or just for when it’s too hot out to grill.

This salmon recipe is made in the oven, but you can definitely make it on the grill too – so take your pick depending on how you feel that day.

Baking salmon in the oven is so easy to do – you don’t need anything special, just a baking sheet and the salmon. For this recipe we’re using a store bought barbecue sauce that we’re adding a few Asian flavors to.

Our kids absolutely LOVE this salmon recipe so if you have kids that are on thee fence with seafood recipes or salmon recipes, you have to try this Baked Asian Salmon.

You can bake this salmon and flake it for salads, too! One way that we got our little guy to first try this salmon was to flake it up and serve it over steamed rice with a little extra soy sauce.

Now we only have the problem of not having enough salmon to go around!

How Do You Make Salmon In The Oven?

For this salmon recipe, we’re going to start with a simple marinade of ginger paste, garlic and soy sauce. Let that sit on your salmon for 15 minutes at room temperature before baking the salmon in the oven.

Now bake the salmon for 7-8 minutes until it’s just about cooked through but not all the way cooked. Bring the tray out of the oven and baste the salmon with your favorite BBQ sauce, then back in the oven to finish cooking.

After the second round in the oven, you can turn your broiler on for a couple of minutes to crispy up the edges and caramelize the BBQ sauce, but that’s optionaL.

An optional step we like taking but if you’ve got a hungry family waiting it’s all good.

How Do I Know When Salmon Is Cooked?

Salmon, in my opinion, is super easy to tell when it’s cooked through. The fish changes from red and translucent to opaque and pink.

So all you have to do is find the thickest part of the salmon filet and flake it with a fork. If it flakes easily and is pink in color, then it’s done. Some people do like their salmon slightly under cooked in the center so that’s up to you, so it can be slightly translucent in the middle but now raw.
