Ingredients You’ll Need
Here are the basic ingredients that you’ll need to make this restaurant-style blender salsa. We’ll talk about variations further down in the post. Head to the recipe card for exact amounts needed.
- Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes: We like using the fire roasted variety for a little more flavor, but you can use regular diced tomatoes as well.
- Cilantro: A bright, citrusy herb that gives this salsa it’s fresh, homemade flavor. If you don’t like cilantro you can use parsley instead.
- Scallions: We use scallions instead of onion for a milder flavor, but if you like that spicy onion bite you can definitely swap that out instead.
- Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice for the best flavor.
- Jalapeño: Jalapeños are relatively mild, so you can add as little or as much as you like. We typically use one small pepper to start.
- Garlic: Start with two small cloves and add more if you want more of a garlic punch.
- Oregano: Oregano is earthy and a bit peppery, so it goes perfectly in this salsa recipe.
- Cumin: Cumin also has an earthy flavor but also a smoky background that we absolutely love in all of our Tex-Mex recipes.
How To Make Blender Salsa
Making blender salsa is as easy as it sounds, however, we do have a tip that makes our salsa recipe better than the rest!

- Add the scallions, garlic, jalapeño pepper, cilantro and lime juice to a blender. Pulse until chopped into small pieces. Scrape down the blender and pulse again if any large pieces remain.
- Pour in the tomatoes along with cumin, oregano and salt. Pulse just a few times until you have the desired texture. Taste for seasonings, adjust if needed and serve.
Variations
- If you don’t like cilantro, you can definitely omit it from this salsa recipe. Try using fresh parsley instead so that you still get a pop of a bright, herby flavor.
- Add a dash or two of hot sauce if you want a spicier salsa, or you can add another jalapeño. Some recipes call for a can if diced green chilis for more heat. Crushed red pepper flakes would work well, too.
- Fruit salsas are also delicious! Add a cut up peach or mango (or both!) or other fruits like pineapple, strawberries or kiwi.

For Best Results
- Add the scallions, garlic and jalapeño pepper to the blender first. This way these firmer ingredients will get pulsed first so that the tomatoes will still have some texture.
- Drain the tomatoes: We prefer to drain the can of diced tomatoes before adding it to the blender. But do save the juice, you can add it a little at a time to the salsa if you need more liquid.
- Pulse don’t blend: Use the pulse feature on your blender instead of turning the blender on low or high speed. You can control the texture better this way so that you don’t end up with a puree and no chunks.
