Big Mac Sauce Recipe (Just Like The Original!)

This copycat Big Mac Sauce recipe is a spot on dupe for that creamy, tangy, slightly sweet flavor you love! Most copycat recipes we’ve found have too much ketchup, making the sauce too red. We bought tons of Big Mac sauce at the drive-thru to make sure this recipe is closest to the original flavor!

Why Our Copycat Big Mac Sauce Is The Best!

When we set out to make a copycat version of Mc Donald’s iconic Big Mac Sauce – we knew we couldn’t mess it up. There’s nothing like biting into a big mac and getting that burst of flavor from the creamy, tangy sauce.

In order to make the best copycat version, we bought tons (and tons!) of Big Mac Sauce at the drive through and made our version over and over until we nailed it. Our version uses a lot less ketchup than most recipes, because there’s actually no ketchup in the original version. We like just a tablespoon for flavor and color!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Just a few staple pantry ingredients and about two minutes of prep time and this sauce is ready to serve. Make a double batch because this homemade sauce will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two weeks! Ingredient descriptions and substitutions if applicable beneath the photo.

ingredients with text for making big mac sauce
  • Mayonnaise: For the closest flavor to the original, use regular, full fat mayonnaise. However, if you’re looking to cut the calories down a bit you can use low fat instead. OR if you’re looking for a protein boost, use half plain Greek yogurt and half mayo!
  • Ketchup: Your favorite brand. If you’re looking for a version that’s less sweet use a natural or low sugar ketchup.
  • Mustard: Yellow mustard will give you the closest flavor to the original. You can also use other types of mustard but it will give the sauce a different flavor.
  • Pickle Relish: We prefer dill relish but you can use sweet relish, too. If using sweet relish, taste before adding the sugar to the sauce because you might not need it.
  • Onion: Finely minced onion or (even better) grated onion with the juice.
  • Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder and paprika.

  • After mixing the sauce, you can cover and refrigerate to allow the flavors to blend together or serve immediately. The sauce will keep fresh in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

How To Use It

Of course we’re slathering this sauce all over our cheeseburgers, but there’s so many different ways to use this Big Mac Sauce! Here’s some of our favorite ways to use it:

  • A topping for hamburgers and hot dogs (try our bacon wrapped hot dogs for parties!)
  • Use it on your favorite sandwiches – hot sandwiches or cold sandwiches both work!
  • Add a dollop to you dinner bowl, this cheeseburger bowl is one of our favorites.
  • Super yummy as a dip for french fries, vegetables or chicken nuggets.
  • Since this sauce has a similar flavor profile to Thousand Island dressing, you can also use it on a wedge of iceberg lettuce with bacon for a wedge salad.
  • Also similar in flavor to Yum Yum Sauce, you can use it in hibachi recipes.
