- Quick Weeknight Dinner: Thin-sliced chicken breasts cook quickly, making this an easy dinner when you’re short on time.
- Two Ways to Cook: Bake the cutlets in the oven with a drizzle of melted butter or pan-fry them in a skillet for a golden, crispy coating. Both versions are delicious!
- Thanksgiving Flavors Anytime: Serve these stuffing crusted chicken cutlets with warm turkey gravy and mashed potatoes for a cozy, holiday-inspired dinner without roasting a whole turkey.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Chicken Cutlets: Thin-sliced boneless, skinless chicken breasts are perfect for this recipe because they cook quickly and evenly.
- Stove Top Stuffing Mix: We’re using a box of turkey-flavored stuffing mix, crushed into crumbs to make a flavorful coating. Chicken-flavored stuffing works just as well!
- Seasonings: A little kosher salt, garlic powder, and black pepper add flavor to the chicken. Since the stuffing mix is already seasoned, you won’t need much additional salt.
- Eggs and Milk: Whisked together to help the stuffing crumbs stick to the chicken cutlets.
- Butter: Melted butter is drizzled over the breaded cutlets before baking, helping the stuffing coating turn golden brown.
- Oil: If you’re making the skillet version, you’ll need oil for pan-frying instead of the melted butter.
How To Make Stuffing Crusted Chicken Cutlets
These oven-baked chicken cutlets are easy to prepare with just a few simple steps. The melted butter helps the stuffing coating turn golden brown and adds so much flavor!

- Season the chicken: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Season both sides of the thin-sliced chicken cutlets with kosher salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.

- Coat the chicken: Crush the dry stuffing mix into fine crumbs. Whisk the eggs and milk together in a shallow bowl. Dip each chicken cutlet into the egg mixture, then press into the stuffing crumbs, coating both sides.

- Add the butter: Place the coated chicken cutlets on a baking sheet in a single layer. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the tops of the cutlets.

- Bake until golden: Bake the chicken cutlets at 425°F for 6–7 minutes, then flip and bake for another 6–7 minutes until the stuffing coating is golden brown and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Serve with warm turkey gravy and mashed potatoes, if desired.
Tips For Success
- Use thin-sliced chicken cutlets. Thin cutlets cook quickly and evenly, making this an easy weeknight dinner. If you’re starting with whole chicken breasts, slice them in half horizontally to make thinner cutlets.
- Don’t crush the stuffing too finely. You want a mixture of fine crumbs and slightly larger pieces for the best texture. A food processor works well, but you can also crush the stuffing in a zip-top bag with a rolling pin.
- Press the coating onto the chicken. After dipping the cutlets into the egg mixture, gently press them into the stuffing crumbs on both sides so the coating sticks.
- Don’t skip the butter! Drizzling melted butter over the chicken before baking adds flavor and helps the stuffing coating turn golden brown.
- Keep an eye on the cooking time. Thin chicken cutlets cook quickly, so be careful not to overbake them. The chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

How To Pan-Fry Stuffing Crusted Chicken Cutlets
If you prefer an extra-crispy coating, these stuffing crusted chicken cutlets can also be pan-fried instead of baked! The seasoned stuffing crumbs turn golden and crunchy in the skillet, making this another delicious way to prepare them.
- Prepare the chicken: Season and coat the chicken cutlets with the egg mixture and crushed stuffing crumbs as directed above.
- Heat the oil: Add enough oil to a large skillet to lightly cover the bottom. Heat over medium heat until the oil is hot.
- Cook the cutlets: Add the chicken in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Cook for approximately 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Serve: Transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack to drain any excess oil. Serve with warm turkey gravy and your favorite sides.

- Reheating: Place the cutlets on a baking sheet in a 350°F oven until heated through. You can also reheat them in an air fryer at 350°F to help crisp up the coating. Reheat until the chicken reaches 165°F internally, then add warm turkey gravy just before serving.
