How To Make Sweet Cornbread

Homemade cornbread is very easy to make. Start to finish it should take you less than 10 minutes to get this into the oven, and just another 30 minutes to bake. Make sure to start with plain cornmeal, not a boxed mix or a self rising cornmeal that has baking soda already added to it.

There are also different types of cornmeal to think about. A finely ground cornmeal or a more coarse ground cornmeal. We prefer the finely ground cornmeal, but if you like a little bite and texture in your cornbread then you can opt for coarse ground.

What Can I Serve Cornbread With?

Like we mentioned before, chili is a favorite dinner recipe to serve with cornbread but there’s so many more options! We’ll list a few here including some everyday dinner options and also holiday meals.

Can You Freeze Cornbread?

Yes, you can freeze cornbread. Cut any leftover cornbread into squares, wrap tightly with plastic wrap and freeze in a container or a plastic freezer bag. Thaw the cornbread at room temperature and eat as is or warm in the oven.

Sometimes we even warm a few pieces up in a skillet with butter to get those crispy, brown edges. This Sweet Cornbread Recipe is also a great gift to give around the holidays. Bake up a few batches, freeze and thaw when needed.

If you find that the top of the cornbread is getting too dark before the center is cooked through, just cover the dish with aluminum foil until the end of the cooking time.
