Slow Cooker Mississippi Chicken is such a flavorful and easy slow cooker dinner recipe! All you need is 5 ingredients and a few hours for cooking and you’ll have deliciously flavorful, zesty chicken. We love serving this chicken over egg noodles, mashed potatoes or crispy french fries!

Why We Love This Mississippi Chicken Recipe
What’s not to love about an easy dinner recipe that practically cooks itself? This is a true dump and go crock pot recipe, so it couldn’t be easier to make. If you love our Mississippi Pot Roast, you’re going to love this chicken version just as much!
- Unique flavor: What makes our recipe a little different is that we use a packet of chicken gravy instead of au jus. After testing the flavor of the chicken, we found that the chicken gravy adds a better flavor. It also makes the gravy thicker, so it clings better to the shredded chicken.
- Great for meal prepping: This is one of our favorite ways to meal prep chicken. It stores perfectly in the refrigerator and you can enjoy it in many different ways.
- Feeds a crowd: This recipe will easily serve 6 but you can stretch it to 8, especially with generous portions on noodles or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Just 5 ingredients is all you need to make this zesty, slow cooker chicken!
- Boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs: We prefer using chicken thighs, but chicken breasts are also delicious. The dark meat of chicken thighs adds a bit more flavor and also stays juicier.
- Pepperoncini peppers & juice: These peppers have a mild, zesty heat, nothing that’s going to be too over the top. Adding some of the juice gives the gravy a delicious tangy flavor.
- Ranch seasoning: A traditional flavoring for Mississippi chicken and beef recipes.
- Chicken gravy: You can grab a packet right by the packets of Ranch – we prefer this over au jus for better flavor and a thicker gravy.
- Butter: Some recipes call for unsalted butter but that’s not something we normally have. Regular butter works just fine, but you can use either.

How To Make Mississippi Chicken
All it takes is about 5 minutes of prep time and then you can walk away while this chicken dinner is doing its magic!

- Add the chicken thighs (or breasts if using) to a slow cooker in a single layer if possible. Season with the Ranch and chicken gravy packets.
- Place the peppers on top of the chicken and pour in the pepper juice. Scatter pats of butter on top of the chicken, cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours. Shred the chicken, toss with the gravy and serve.

What To Serve With Mississippi Chicken
We love spooning this shredded chicken and gravy over egg noodles or mashed potatoes to soak up all of the delicious gravy. But like we mentioned, this chicken is also crazy good served with crispy french fries. Much like how we sometimes enjoy our creamy chicken marsala.
In addition, you might want to have some buttered dinner rolls on hand, and if you like, a vegetable or salad on the side to make it a complete meal.

How To Store & Reheat
Let the chicken cool down and then transfer it into an air tight container with the gravy spooned on top. Mississippi chicken will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, but it also freezes wonderfully if you don’t get to it all in time.
Reheating this chicken couldn’t be easier to do right in the microwave. For larger portions you can warm it up in the oven or place it back into your slow cooker.
