A Frozen Drink Recipe For Summer
Rosé is all over the place these days. When you walk into a liquor store it’s the first thing you see on display right in front.
There’s lots of varieties to choose from, expensive and not so expensive, on the sweeter side or not sweet at all…even though she might get mad at me for saying this I definitely think my wife has tried them all.
She was on a mission with a friend of hers trying to find the perfect rosé. They were looking for the “not sweet” kind but also the “not earthy” kind. It got to a point where my 12 year old son would watch them tasting wines and he would ask them constantly “Is it earthy?” It has become the running joke these days for pretty much everything we taste test now.
SO for me, who’s really not a wine guy, when she wanted to make this rosé slushie I was a little skeptical. I just kept picturing an overly sweet icee type drink that my kids would get form the movie theater or something, But I was wrong – really wrong.
This Watermelon Rosé Slushie is not sweet at all, the only sugar is natural sugar from the watermelon and it’s the perfect amount. We even wondered if we should add a little sugar or agave to it when we were sampling it…but decided not too.
If you like a sweeter drink then you can totally add it to your blender, but for us this recipe was perfect the way it was. Just two ingredients to the most awesome wine slushie ever.
How To Make A Watermelon Rosé Slushie
You just have to make sure you leave enough time to freeze the wine and the watermelon – at least 6 hours but if you can do it the night before, even better.
Then when it’s cocktail time just get out your blender and blend away. We added the rest of our bottle of rosé to the blender to get it going…you can start by adding a quarter cup at a time so it’s not too watery for you but it took the rest of our bottle which was a little over a half cup.
Just keep in mind that at this point – with frozen watermelon cubes you could add a lot to the blender here. Rum, tequila, vodka…not just wine. So there’s a lot of options for you if you’re not into rosé, but trust me. I think you’re going to like this one.
Now I’m going to say that you can serve this up to your wife and her friends the next time they’re over…but remember to save some in the blender for yourself too.
