Watermelon Margarita Shooters

These Watermelon Margarita Shooters are fun tequila shots that are going to be a hit at any party! If you like tequila drinks then this recipe is for you!

Tequila just screams party to me, right? There’s the standard tequila shots with lime, of course there’s your margaritas, even a nice glass of sipping tequila…you’re in party mode.

So let’s think about combining tequila with a summer time favorite – watermelon.

Watermelon can make some of the best summer cocktails, like this Watermelon Spritzer or even used in savory dinners like these Watermelon Fish Tacos.

But today we’re making Watermelon Margarita Shooters – and these shooters are going to look just as amazing as they taste.

Good tequila should warm you up without the burn, just what I like to serve in these tequila cocktails.

This tequila is one that you can serve with a squeeze of lime and nothing else, but as I’ve always said, if you use the highest quality liquor you’re going to get the highest quality cocktail.

You’re probably used to grabbing just an inexpensive bottle of booze for mixing, am I right?

Totally something I learned from my wife a long time ago. She always got rave reviews for her margaritas because she always used a high quality tequila to make them.

Kind of makes sense right?

So we’re going to do the same thing today for these Watermelon Margarita Shooters.

First you’re going to rim the shot glasses, a little extra step that only takes a few minutes but it’s worth it. Just wet the top edge of your shot glass with a little water, not too much or the sugar will just melt.

Dip the edges in a shallow plate with sugar, turning to coat the rim.

How To Cut A Watermelon Into Sticks

Start by cutting the watermelon in half lengthwise. Then you cut across into 1 inch strips and then cut across the other way to make the sticks.

You’ll need 1 for each shot glass, but I’m assuming you’re going to want to make more than 6 of these tequila shots…so there will be more for round two.

Cut the other half of the watermelon into cubes, you’ll use this to make the juice for the base of the margarita.

Into a blender goes the watermelon cubes, tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice.

Blend away until smooth then get ready to assemble you’re shooters.

Fill each shot glass about 3/4 full with the margarita base and then a watermelon stick.

Top with a splash of seltzer and you’re ready to go.

The splash of seltzer isn’t typical in a margarita, no. But the bubbles make these watermelon margaritas a little more festive and we’re all in party mode today. A big tray of these at your Fourth of July BBQ is going to steal the show.

The best thing about making shooters like this for a party is that you can make the watermelon margarita base ahead of time, (make a whole lot) and then come party time just give it a stir, fill the shot glasses and top with seltzer. You can even set all of this out on the bar so your guests can assemble a shooter themselves…and that way you can sit back and have a few yourself!
