Piña Colada

What would vacation be without a Piña Colada in one hand and your feet in that sand? This classic frozen cocktail is one of the first things that I order when I go on a beach vacation! But since we’re not always on vacation…we decided to perfect this Pina Colada recipe at home!

What Is A Piña Colada?

A Pina Colada cocktail is a sweet run drink made with cream of coconut and pineapple juice. Pina Coladas can be served blended, which is how you most often see them, or shaken and served over ice. To be honest, I like them both ways, but I probably prefer them shaken over ice.

We made this Pina Colada recipe the frozen, blended way because it’s what people typically look for. But I’ll tell you how to serve them on the rocks, too!

What’s in a Piña Colada?

Super simple, this tropical cocktail only requires a few ingredients!

White Rum and Dark Rum: So you only need dark rum if you want to do a floater like we’ve shown here, and I definitely recommend that you do! Otherwise you only need white rum.

Pineapple Juice: Just grab your favorite brand at the store, you can also switch it up by using a pineapple juice blend.

Cream of Coconut: Usually we can find this right at the grocery store in the beverage aisle. You can also swap out coconut milk as well.

Heavy Cream: We like our Pina Coladas super creamy, so we added just a touch of heavy cream. Cream is an optional ingredient, so if you don’t have it it’s not completely needed, it just adds a little extra richness.

And don’t forget about the garnish! If you’re serving a Pina Colada, you can’t just pour it into a glass and be done. Garnish these frozen drinks with a maraschino cherry and those fun paper umbrellas!

It’ll seem like your on that beach vacation right in your backyard.

How To Make A Piña Colada

Making a Piña Colada is as easy as adding all the ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth and pour into the most fun glass you have. We like these rounded bottom high ball glasses but really any glass will do.

How To Serve A Piña Colada

Serving these Pina Coladas is part of the fun! Add a dark rum floater to the top after you pour them into glasses. The dark rum adds such great flavor to this cocktail, and also adds a nice color.

You can leave the dark rum on top and let it sink down into your drink as you sip it or stir it right in. Then add your straw, cherry and paper umbrella and you’re on your way to the islands.
