Shrimp Puffs Appetizer Recipe

Shrimp Puffs are a classic appetizer recipe that has stood the test of time. For one, they’re super easy to make using store bought biscuit dough and already cooked baby shrimp. For two, they’re so darn tasty that everyone will be asking you for the recipe!

How Do You Make Shrimp Puffs?

Grab a can of biscuit dough from the store. You’ll need a can that has 10 biscuits in it for this recipe, some only have 8 so if you can’t find the can that has 10 just grab two.

Also, this is the time for those little frozen baby shrimp that you see hanging out in your seafood department or in the freezer section of your store. You don’t want to use bigger shrimp because this is a bite sized appetizer recipe. If larger shrimp is all you have though, just cut them into smaller, bite sized pieces.

Cut each biscuit in half and press it into each muffin tin. Depending on your muffin pam you might have some holes left empty, but that’s ok. You’re going to end up with 20 shrimp puff appetizers, which should serve 6-8 people.

Make the shrimp mixture with mayonnaise, monterey jack or mozzarella cheese, scallions, fresh dill and salt and pepper to taste. Add the shrimp mixture to the top of each biscuit and bake!

Can I Use Another Herb Besides Dill In This Appetizer Recipe?

Yep! If you’re not a fan of dill then you can swap out whichever fresh herb that you like. Thyme, rosemary, chives, even parsley would all be good substitutions. Or, if you really have to, just leave the herbs out altogether and add a seasoning like Old Bay to flavor up the shrimp puffs!

What Different Kind Of Cheese Can Be Used To Make These Appetizers?

We like a creamy monterey jack cheese or mozzarella cheese to make these shrimp puffs but you can use so many other kinds! Spice it up with pepper jack cheese, use a creamy havarti, or even a smoked gouda or Swiss cheese.

What you don’t want is a very sharp cheese like cheddar that will overpower the shrimp and the light flavor of these biscuits. But pretty much any melting cheese you like is fair game.

Can I Make Shrimp Puffs Ahead Of Time?

You definitely can! Make a batch or two of these appetizers, let them cool and then freeze them until you need them. Pull them out and place them on a baking sheet and cover the tops with non-stick aluminum foil. Bake the shrimp puffs at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes until they are warmed through and serve!
