Why We Love This Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe
Chips and dip are usually on the menu for any game day, for sure. But also we love serving this hot dip recipe for appetizers, happy hour or just for weekend snacks! Buffalo Chicken Dip is always a a favorite recipe with everyone, I mean who doesn’t like creamy, mildly spicy chicken with tortilla chips for dipping?
We like to spice this dip recipe up by using a secret ingredient, a jalapeño flavored cream cheese. But if you like to keep the spiciness down a little you can use regular cream cheese.
The jalapeño cream cheese adds another kind of heat that the buffalo wing sauce doesn’t. It’s still not a blow your head off type of heat, just perfectly creamy and spicy, all in one.
Ingredients For Buffalo Chicken Dip
- Leftover Chicken or Rotisserie Chicken
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Jalapeño Cream Cheese (Can substitute regular cream cheese)
- Sour Cream
- Hot Sauce (not pictured)
Can Buffalo Chicken Dip Be Made Ahead Of Time?
This Buffalo Chicken Dip is a perfect appetizer recipe to make ahead of time! Just put the recipe together completely and then bake it off when it’s time to party.
I have to say though, this buffalo chicken dip recipe is so easy to make you hardly need to make it ahead of time, but one less thing to do for a party is always good! All you need is about 5 minutes to mix the ingredients together and then bake!
How Do You Make This Dip Recipe?
Buffalo Chicken Dip is so simple, you guys are going to love this one.
All you need to do is add the softened cream cheese, sour cream and hot sauce into a bowl and mix it all together. Next stir in shredded chicken (this is a great leftover chicken recipe!) but you can also grab a rotisserie chicken from the store.
Mix it all together with hot sauce, or a milder buffalo wing sauce, depending on what level of heat you’re going for. That’s one thing I have learned just recently, how many different types of hot sauce are on the shelves, with all different levels of heat.
You can grab a blow your head off spicy hot sauce or a perfectly mild hot sauce, it all depends on you.
Put the chicken mixture in an oven proof dish and cover with shredded cheddar cheese. Place the baking dish on top of a sheet pan in case some cheese melts over the side.
Bake the dip at 425 degrees for 20 – 25 minutes until the center is warm and the cheese is melted. Grab a bag of tortilla chips and start dipping!

I cook my chicken in hot sauce with some cajun for an extra kick! And add scallions!
Nope, not thinking “that’s a lot of hot sauce.” I’m thinking “Bring it on!” This sounds amazing. I’m all about buffalo-anything so I’m definitely making this in the very near future.
Thanks Kate – I even thought it would be too spicy at first, but it wasn’t! Just good, spicy, cheese dip.
