Super crispy Cheeseburger Wontons are sure to become a new favorite snack! We love serving these for appetizers at parties or on game days but we’ve been known to make a meal out of them, too. These wontons turn out so crispy in the air fryer, there’s no need for frying in oil. Don’t forget to make a batch of our homemade Big Mac Sauce for dipping!

Why You’re Going To Love These Air Fryer Cheeseburger Wontons
We’re heading into football season and that means we need to amp up our appetizer game! These cheeseburger wontons turned out SO good – they even exceeded our expectations. Because even though we love a good deep fried appetizer, sometimes it really isn’t what we have time for – or the extra calories for.
- Nostalgic Flavor: These wontons have all the same flavors of a Big Mac, especially if you make our copycat Big Mac Sauce for dipping.
- Low Guilt Appetizer: Since we’re using an air fryer, these cheeseburger wontons are really a pretty “good for you” snack as far as we’re concerned. You can use lean ground beef and low fat cheese to really make them calorie-friendly.
- Make Ahead Recipe: You can make these appetizers ahead of time and keep them warm in a low oven. You can also refrigerate and warm them back up in the oven or air fryer.
Ingredients You’ll Need For Cheeseburger Wontons
Just a few ingredients pictured below is all you need to get started. You also need an egg (not pictured) for sealing the wontons and if you’re choosing to use the sesame seeds on top.

- Wonton Wrappers: Grab these in the produce department at your grocery store. You can also use egg roll wrappers and make air fryer cheeseburger egg rolls!
- Ground Beef: We like using a lean ground beef to cut down on the grease, keeping these wontons as crispy as possible. Get a 90% lean or above if you can. You can also swap out ground turkey or chicken.
- Onion: Finely diced yellow onion so it adds flavor but you don’t get a giant bite of onion.
- Cheddar Cheese: Our only tip here is to grate your own instead of using pre-shredded cheese, but if pre-shredded is all you have, that’ll do. You can use white cheddar, a Colby jack, even a pepper jack if you want a bit of spice.
- Worcestershire Sauce: For a beefy flavor.
- Garlic Powder: To keep it easy, but you can also add fresh garlic when you’re browning the ground beef.
- Ketchup: We like to stir in a couple tablespoons of ketchup to bring home the cheeseburger flavor.
How To Make Air Fryer Cheeseburger Wontons
Step by step photos here with brief instructions to give you the idea. For complete instructions, scroll to the recipe card at the end of the post.

- Make the filling: Brown ground beef in a skillet until cooked through. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and ketchup and stir to combine. Add 1/2 cup of shredded cheese and stir to melt.

- Fill the wontons: Lay a wonton wrapper on a board and add a heaping tablespoon of the filling. We like to add a little more cheese on top, but that’s optional. Wet the edges of the wrapper with the egg wash and then bring up the bottom corner to meet the top corner. Press the edges together to seal, pushing out the air. Repeat with the remaining wonton wrappers.

- Air Fry: Spray the basket of an air fryer with non-stick cooking spray. Add as many wontons as you can in a single layer. If using sesame seeds, brush the tops lightly with egg wash and sprinkle the seeds on. Spray the tops of the wontons with an oil-based spray and air fry at 375 degrees for 6 minutes.
Why Did My Wontons Burn?
All air fryer cook a little differently, so make sure to check your wontons at about the 4 minute mark. We found that 6 minutes is the sweet spot for ours to get perfectly crispy, but yours may vary.
So to prevent all this hard work from burning, check them at 4 minutes so see how they’re looking. Then cook another minute or two (or maybe yours need three more minutes) and remove them when the edges are brown and crispy. Once you get the cooking time down the remaining batches will be easier.

Can I Cook These In An Oven Instead?
Yes, you can but they wont’ be as crispy as they are in an air fryer. But don’t let that stop you if you don’t have an air fryer, they’ll be super delicious in the oven, too. See the recipe card below for oven instructions.
You can also deep fry these cheeseburger wontons if you really like a fried finish! I mean what’s not to like there…we love a delicious fried ravioli, for instance or a long time favorite, fried artichoke hearts.

Storing and Reheating
Store these wontons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can simply reheat them in the microwave for a fast snack or meal. If you want the most crispy reheated wontons, warm them up in your air fryer at 350 degrees for just a couple of minutes until they’re warmed through.
You can also reheat them on a sheet pan in a 350 degree oven for about 5 minutes. Since these cheeseburger wontons turn out so crispy to begin with, they really don’t lose a ton of crunch upon reheating.

Air Fryer Cheeseburger Wontons
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cook Time: 6 minutes
- Total Time: 26 minutes
- Yield: 40 wontons 1x
Unbelievably crispy Cheeseburger Wontons are sure to become a favorite snack or appetizer! Crispy wontons stuffed with a beefy, cheesy filling and air fried until golden brown and crispy. Dip them in our copycat Big Mac Sauce for the ultimate cheeseburger vibe. We make these for appetizers on game days, holidays or a fun dinner served with french fries!
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (we like to use a 90 – 93% lean)
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 12 ounce package wonton wrappers
- Egg, beaten with a splash of water
- Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
- Big Mac Sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Spray a large skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Add the onions and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking up into small crumbles until cooked through. You don’t want big pieces of ground beef, make them as small as you can for easy filling in the wontons.
- Drain any grease from the skillet then add the salt, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, ketchup and stir. Turn the heat off and add 1/2 cup of the cheese to the beef, stirring until melted. Remove the pan from the heat and let cool slightly.
- Beat the egg in a small bowl with a splash of water to create an egg wash that will seal the wonton wrappers.
- Place a wonton wrapper on a board (see the photos in the post for reference) and fill with a heaping tablespoon of the beef filling, adding a little cheese to the top if you like (we like). Dip your finger into the wash and paint along the edges of the wonton wrapper. Take the bottom corner, bring it up to meet the top corner and press the edges together while pushing out any air. Make sure that all edges are sealed, then place on the board and repeat until your filling is gone.
- Spray the basket of an air fryer (or use a liner) and place the wontons on the basket in a single layer. If using the sesame seeds, brush a thin layer of egg wash on top of the wontons and sprinkle on the sesame seeds, then spray the tops of the wontons with an oil based cooking spray. If you’re not using the sesame seeds, skip that step and spray the tops of the wontons with an oil based spray. Cook at 375 degrees for 6 minutes until brown and crispy. *See note
Recipe Notes
All air fryers cook differently so make sure that you check the wontons around the 4 minutes mark. For our air fryer, we found that 6 minutes was the sweet spot but you might need to adjust the cooking time a little shorter or a little longer.
Cooking time: The cooking time in the recipe card is for 1 batch, this will depend on how many wontons fit in a single layer in your air fryer. Additional batches will be another 6 minutes.
Store: Store leftover wontons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat: Reheat leftover wontons right in the microwave for a quick snack, or place them in a 350 oven or air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through.
