A Nutty Irishman is a delicious, fun cocktail that I always order out after a meal! Now I can make these nutty cocktails right at home!
We’ve been going to this one Italian restaurant for years and have come to know the owner pretty well. Usually after dinner he has the waiter come over and ask us if we’d like an after dinner drink on the house and not being one to ever turn down a free drink, a Nutty Irishman is usually what I end up ordering. It’s kind of dessert-like, it has a little sweetness from the Bailey’s so I guess I get a two for one by ordering this drink and having my dessert in a glass.
I’ve seen a few recipes for Nutty Irishman that are served warm with the addition of coffee. Which would be great except that I’m not a coffee drinker, so I had to come up with a different way to make it. My solution was to add a shot of Kaluha so that you get the coffee flavor without actually adding the coffee.
Rimming the glass with chopped nuts is optional. It adds a little to the flavor but it’s mostly for looks. If you’re looking to impress some friends and family when you serve these drinks up, then definitely take the extra couple of minutes to rim the glass.
So my twist on this Nutty Irishman is adding some heavy cream to the top. Fresh cream that’s whipped but not all the way, just so it’s thick enough to sit on the top of the drink, and thin enough that you can still sip through it.
Kind of makes this after dinner drink a dessert too – and boozy dessert is always a good thing!
- 1 oz. of Bailey’s Irish Cream
- 1 oz. of Frangelica
- 1 oz. of Kahlua
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Chopped nuts for garnish (optional)
- Add the Bailey’s, Frangelica and Kahlua to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into glasses.
- Beat the heavy cream with a whisk for 3-4 minutes until just thickened.
- Slowly pour the cream into the glass so the cream sits on top.
- Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
