A Festive Champagne Cocktail Recipe

Champagne cocktails are a go to drink for the holidays. Champagne always feels like a party, even when it’s not. Am I right?

This Christmas Morning Mimosa is a go to brunch cocktail, but it’s also great for serving in the evening at your cocktail party or Christmas Eve party. Any party. Any time of day. You get the idea.

Because the flavors in this mimosa work so well together, it doesn’t have to be Christmas time for you to enjoy it. You could make this mimosa recipe for New Year’s Day brunch or New Year’s Eve and really anytime you want a kicked up, super flavorful champagne cocktail!

How Do You Make A Mimosa?

Typically a mimosa recipe is just champagne and orange juice. Just add orange juice to a champagne flute and top off with champagne. You can pretty much just eye ball it, there’s no real measuring involved.

Make sure you have about 1/3 orange juice in the glass and the 2/3 champagne or prosecco. Those are my ratios anyway. If you order a mimosa out at a restaurant you’re going to get the opposite – 2/3 orange juice to about 1/3 champagne.

That’s way too much orange juice in my opinion.

For this Christmas Morning Mimosa you’ll need Amaretto, grenadine and orange juice. Fresh orange juice would make this mimosa extra amazing, but if you don’t have fresh, grab the best tasting brand at the store.

I mean since orange juice is a big part of this drink recipe, you don’t want cheap orange juice or orange juice from concentrate. That is not going to make for a tasty Christmas Cocktail!

Is It Better To Use Champagne Or Prosecco in A Mimosa?

This is a tough question for me to answer, because to be honest there isn’t a correct answer here. The answer is that you want to use whatever tastes the best that’s also in your budget.

If you have champagne taste but a beer budget, you might want to find a good bottle of prosecco, especially if you’re making these mimosas for a crowd. There are some great brands of prosecco out there, too, you just need to do some taste testing!

These days I do tend to prefer champagne to prosecco because I find champagne to be drier tasting than prosecco and I just prefer the flavor. Also, champagne doesn’t have to be crazy expensive either! One of my favorite bottles of champagne is under 20 dollars so you just have to find one that works for you!
