Ingredients You’ll Need
Of course, we’re starting with your delicious, leftover turkey that you probably have quite a bit of. For this recipe you’re going to need about 3 heaping cups of chopped or shredded turkey. Little more, little less won’t matter that much.
For the Dressing:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Fresh black pepper to taste
Salad Ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked turkey, diced or shredded
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/3 cup finely diced red onion
- 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
- 1/4 cup craisins
All of these ingredients add flavor and texture to this turkey salad, so try to use them all. If you’re opposed to and ingredient or two, no worries but try to substitute it with something else that’s comparable in flavor or texture.
Variations
There’s lots of ingredients that you can swap out or add into this turkey salad recipe. We think this recipe is pretty perfect as is, but of course, everyone has their own preferences.
Keep in mind that if you are adding extra ingredients to this salad that you may need to increase the amount of dressing that’s in the recipe.
Add In Or Swap Out:
- Celery
- Yellow/Sweet Onion
- Scallions
- Fresh Dill
- Raisins
- Grapes
- Walnuts/Pecans
- And of course, chicken instead of turkey!
How Long Is Turkey Salad Good For?
A very good question, might I add. Leftover turkey is good for 3-4 days in the refrigerator, so this turkey salad is only good for that length of time.
For instance, of your turkey is on day 3 when you make this recipe, then you’re going to need to finish it up that day or the next day.
Turning leftover turkey into this creamy, delicious salad doesn’t extend the shelf life of the turkey meat. After we make a big turkey dinner, we like to portion out enough turkey for each leftover turkey recipe that we know we’re going to make.
Then we freeze it that night, or the next day, and it’s fresh for when we make our leftover recipes.
Ways To Serve Turkey Salad
Our favorite way is to pile the salad onto fluffy, soft slider buns like we’ve shown you here. But there are many other ways to serve this salad, too.
Make your favorite salad recipe and add a scoop of this turkey salad to the middle.
Or you can serve this salad in lettuce wraps, pita bread, regular sliced sandwich bread or just add to crackers for a light meal.
