These Fried Poutine Wontons are my new favorite appetizer recipe! This leftover recipe works perfectly after a big holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas!
Not really sure how my brain came up with this one, but it did. And I’m so happy it did because this appetizer recipe is pretty amazing.
Actually we were trying to think of a leftover mashed potato recipe that hasn’t been done before, because there’s a lot of them out there.
Both solid recipes for leftover mashed potatoes but obviously we have to keep thinking of new things to get up on the the site here – so in comes Fried Poutine Wontons.
What were talking about here is a wonton filled with mashed potatoes and cheese, fried until crispy and served with gravy for dipping.
I have to tell you guys you won’t believe how good these are until you take a bite. One bite was all it took for me to know that these Fried Poutine Wontons were going to be at the top of your appetizer recipe list.
And if you’ve never tried poutine fries, you should totally go and check them out.
Say you don’t have leftover mashed potatoes? No problem.
Whip up your favorite mashed potato recipe or buy them in the store already made. We’ve just discovered some really decent mashed potatoes in the butcher section of our store, they’ll work just fine in this wonton recipe.
But if you do have them say leftover from dinner last night or even from Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, awesome.
You only need about 2 cups of mashed potatoes for this recipe, unless you want to double the recipe, fry them and freeze them for another day.
Let’s get started because these fried wontons are going to be done in no time!
Stuff a couple tablespoons of mashed potatoes in the center of a wonton wrapper and get some mozzarella cheese on top.
Brush the edges with egg wash to seal them up, then it’s time for the deep fry…
Don’t be too afraid of deep frying these appetizers, obviously you don’t want to making fried food every day but these wontons are so worth it. They come out crispy and golden brown just like this…
For the gravy you have some options. You can use leftover homemade gravy if you have it or you can buy it at the store already prepared in a jar or the powdered mix.
I have to confess, we use the powdered mix when we don’t have homemade available. It’s easy, you can season it up as you like and most of all, it tastes good.
Try and get to these Fried Poutine Wontons when they’re hot, that’s when the cheese is still soft in the middle and oozing out when you pull them part.
Nothing better than a good cheese pull shot.
Like I said, you can make these wontons, let them cool and freeze them. Warm them up in the oven at 350 for 15-20 minutes when you’re ready to serve!
Check out how easy they are to make…wait for the deep fry…
