Ingredients You Need

Just a few basic ingredients that you likely already have, or are very easy to keep on hand. We’ll list them below the photo for you with substitutions if available. For the full recipe scroll to the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Frozen AND canned pineapple: After testing these dole whip smoothies, we found that using frozen and canned pineapple results in the best flavor and texture. The frozen pineapple is what gives this smoothie it’s thick, creamy texture, and the canned pineapple adds a more pineapple, sweet flavor. If you only have canned you can add some ice cubes into the blender. If you only have frozen pineapple, you can use pineapple juice to add more sweetness.
  • Whole milk: Whole milk also adds to the thick, creamy flavor and consistency. You can use any type of milk you like though, like almond milk or your milk of choice.
  • Yogurt: Again, we’re using a full-fat, thick and creamy yogurt like the one shown in the photo. But you can use any yogurt you like, just keep in mind that it will affect the flavor of the smoothie.

How To Make A Smoothie

Making this Dole Whip Smoothie is as easy as adding all of the ingredients to a blender and hitting the button! Scroll down to the recipe card at the end of the post for complete instructions.

  • Add ingredients to a blender: Add both pineapples, juice, yogurt and milk to a blender.
  • Blend: Blend until smooth, thick and creamy.

Can I Use Different Fruit?

Yes! You can use this same recipe and swap out most any fruit or berry that you like! As long as you keep the same ingredient ratios here you’ll have a thick and creamy smoothie in any flavor. Here’s some of our favorite ideas, keep in mind you can use more than one!

  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Peaches
  • Kiwi
  • Banana: Add 1/2 of a banana to any of these!

What Else Can I Add To A Smoothie?

Depending on what you’re looking for or what your goals are, there’s a lot of different ingredients that you can add to smoothies depending on your tastes or, for instance, your healthy goals.

  • Spinach/Kale/Greens: For vitamins and fiber.
  • Chia Seeds/Flax Seeds: For protein and fiber.
  • Protein Powder: For a boost of protein.
  • Avocado: Half of a small avocado for an extra thick and creamy smoothie.
  • Sweeteners: Maple syrup, honey, sugar or a no calorie sweetener.

Can I Make A Smoothie Ahead Of Time?

We don’t like to make these dole whip smoothies (or any smoothie, really) ahead of time. Making smoothies is really so easy to do, just about five minutes is all you need.

When the smoothie sits in the refrigerator it separates a bit, making the texture slightly watery. If you don’t finish this smoothie, you can store the leftovers in the refrigerator and then blend it again before drinking.
