Can You Use Ground Beef In This Recipe?
Totally! Our grocery store carries shaved beef right in the butcher department, or if your local to a Trader Joe’s they have shaved beef there, too.
But ground beef really is a perfect substitution if you can’t find it. There won’t be anything different to follow in the recipe, just swap it out for the shaved beef and continue on. What we love about using shaved beef tough is that it helps to hold on to all that delicious, creamy sauce.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
- 2 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 10 ounces mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- Kosher salt pepper to taste
- 2 shallots, diced
- 1 tablespoon crushed garlic
- 1 pound shaved beef
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water
- 3/4 cup marsala wine
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
Add the olive oil and butter to a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the mushrooms and shallots, cooking until browned, about 12-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Add the garlic and stir, then cook for 1 minute longer. Remove the mushrooms and onions to a plate.
Add the other tablespoon of butter and oil to the skillet, then add beef to brown, seasoning with the garlic powder and more salt and pepper to taste. Once the beef is browned through, add the mushrooms and onions back to the skillet.
Pour in the marsala wine and let reduce for 2-3 minutes.
Next add the beef broth and let simmer for 5 minutes to reduce slightly. Pour in the heavy cream, then add the cornstarch mixture and whisk to combine.
Bring the sauce back to a boil to thicken, then remove form the heat and serve with chopped parsley.
