What Is RumChata?
I’ve heard about RumChata a bunch of times and I see it all the time when I’m researching cocktail recipes. It’s always been interesting to me but I never actually went out and bought any.
RumChata is a cream based liquor recipe that uses Caribbean rum and real dairy cream with cinnamon, sugar and some top secret ingredients to make it super tasty. The flavor is based on horchata, which is a drink that’s popular in Spain during the summer months.
But we like to drink this creamy, smooth liquor in all the months of the year. Straight up or mixed in a great cocktail, this liquor is the perfect addition to your home bar!
What Are Some Popular RumChata Drinks?
There’s so many different drinks to make with RumChata it’s like reading the “menu” that comes with those jelly beans…seeing which combinations will make it taste like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Mix RumChata and Kahlua together to make a Cinnamon Bun Cocktail, or add RumChata to some Goldschalger to make a Cinnamon Grahams drink. You can shake up some RumChata and cherry bourbon makes a cherry pie…and so on, you get the idea.
One of the more known RumChata Drinks is this Cinnamon Crunch Cocktail. This creamy cocktail simply combines RumChata with Fireball Whisky.
And even though it was pretty good, pretty good usually isn’t good enough for me.
I wanted to kick up the vanilla flavors and amp up the cinnamon from the Fireball. Fireball whisky cinnamon tastes a lot different to me than sugary cinnamon toast crunch cereal.
It’s more like red hot candy spice, not warm and sugary spice like the cereal…so I had to figure out how to get those two flavors to work well together. To get more vanilla flavor I added vanilla vodka to the mix and rimmed the glass with Cinnamon Sugar (grab some on the link if you want to order some ASAP).
The flavors were perfect, strong enough to be a good drink, but warm enough flavors that everyone will like. And don’t forget to garnish with a large Cinnamon Stick, for stirring and for flavor!
Make this Cinnamon Toast Crunch cocktail for an after dinner drink or even a dessert cocktail – my favorite type of dessert! Make sure to head over to Food Fanatic and check out their awesome food and cocktail recipes!
