This Amaretto Sidecar Cocktail is a classic drink recipe that we’ve kicked up with our homemade Amaretto instead of cognac!
We used our Homemade Amaretto to make these drinks so they taste even better! Some of our other favorite drinks made with Amaretto are these Island Champagne Cocktails and these dessert-like Toasted Almond Martinis!
What Is A Sidecar Cocktail?
A Sidecar cocktail is typically made with cognac, orange liquor and lemon juice. We’ve taken the liberty to swap out the cognac in this drink recipe and replace it with Amaretto for a nuttier, almond flavored drink.
This Amaretto Sidecar Cocktail is one of my favorite sipping cocktails, to be enjoyed at happy hour with friends or just at home in your favorite chair by the fireplace.
Why We Use Amaretto
We decided to try our Homemade Amaretto to make this sidecar cocktail because we just love the flavor that it brings to drink recipes. Not too sweet and a light almond flavor that compliments the orange liquor in this cocktail recipe. You can use Cointreau or Grand Marnier or Triple Sec. Triple sec bring the least expensive of the three but all will work just fine in this classic drink.
Ingredients For This Amaretto Sidecar
There are a few options when it comes to making this Amaretto Sidecar, here are the ingredients we chose to use!
Amaretto: We used our homemade amaretto but there are many good brands to choose from at the store if you’re not into making your own.
Cointreau: An orange flavored liquor made in France that’s used in a lot of cocktail recipes. Besides the orange flavor and smell, the liquor is clear in color.
Fresh lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice is a must when you’re making a drink like this sidecar cocktail that only has a few ingredients. The tartness from the lemon juice will help to balance some of the sweet flavors in this drink.
How To Serve A Sidecar Cocktail
Add both liquors and the fresh lemon juice to a shaker with ice. Shake well to blend the flavors and to chill the cocktail and then strain into a coupe glass.
Serve these sidecar cocktail with fresh slices of oranges as garnish to highlight the orange liquor in the drink. Orange and almond flavors play very well together, they are almost dessert-like without being overly sweet.

This went down very well with everyone and I think it is now one of my favourite cocktails!
We’re so glad you liked it!
Yum!! I love a Sidecar and I love Amaretto – this was a fantastic drink for me. (Meyer lemon juice ftw)
It’s a perfect refreshing drink. I love it!
I am not one for the sidecar. I love this version and keep coming back.
A tasty libation. I made it a second time, using one ounce of amaretto and one ounce of cognac. Either way was good, I liked the slight less sweet variation.
I don’t even like cocktails but this is good
Thanks Ryan!
