Ingredients You’ll Need
You only need a handful of ingredients to make this classic frozen cocktail. Here’s what you need and why each one is important.
- Pineapple chunks with juice: Using canned pineapple and its juice gives this cocktail the perfect balance of sweetness and makes blending easy.
- Heavy cream: Adds richness and creates that signature creamy texture.
- Cream of coconut: We use Coco Lopez for the classic, sweet coconut flavor. Don’t substitute coconut cream or coconut milk.
- White rum: The traditional choice for a smooth, tropical Piña Colada. Use whatever rum you like drinking, probably not your top shelf rum, but one that tastes good.
- Ice: Adjust the amount depending on how thick you like frozen cocktails.
- Dark rum (optional): Float a shot of dark run on top for a beautiful presentation and a delicious flavor.
- Maraschino cherries and pineapple wedges: Optional for garnish, but they make the perfect garnish.

How To Make A Piña Colada
Making a Piña Colada is as easy as adding all the ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth and pour into the most fun glass you have. We like these rounded bottom high ball glasses but really any glass will do.

How To Serve A Piña Colada
Serving these Pina Coladas is part of the fun! Add a dark rum floater to the top after you pour them into glasses. The dark rum adds such great flavor to this cocktail, and also adds a nice color.
You can leave the dark rum on top and let it sink down into your drink as you sip it or stir it right in. Then add your straw, cherry and paper umbrella and you’re on your way to the islands.
