A Refreshing Twist On A Classic Manhattan Cocktail

I think that getting together at the end of the day, whether you and your spouse both work or just one of you does, you need to get together and regroup. Check back in with each other after a long day. And as we know sometimes those days are good and sometimes they aren’t so good.

But you know one thing that is constant – if you had a good day or a bad day – a cocktail is always the right remedy.

We’ve got our standards too. Beer, wine, martinis (usually a dirty martini for Christie) and for me it’s a couple glasses of whiskey, whatever the flavor of the week is. That’s when I like to change things up and make a cocktail that neither of us have had before, but I know we’re both going to love.

In the summer we have a few mint plants that grow crazy – mint everywhere. I started looking for drinks that I could make with mint. There’s a lot, of course you’ve got your Moscow MulesMojitos…or these Mint Juleps. But I had bourbon on the brain today.

This Minty Manhattan starts by making a mint infused simple syrup – it’s the only time consuming part, I promise. But you can make it really quick and let it chill in the fridge until cocktail time.

Then all that’s left to do is shake things up!

How To Make A Minty Manhattan

Combine fresh mint, vermouth, a dash of bitters, (Mint Bitters works good here, you can grab it at your liquor store or on Amazon)  but you can use regular bitters if you like) the mint simple syrup and of course bourbon. Shake it like crazy to bruise the mint ( you don’t want pieces floating in, just the mint flavor) and strain into a martini or high ball glass.

Minty Manhattan is a crisp, refreshing twist on the classic!

Now that’s what I call mixing things up at cocktail hour – good or bad day – it’s sure to get even better with a couple of these Minty Manhattans!
