If you’re looking for the perfect holiday appetizer that’s quick and easy, try these Turkey Cocktail Meatballs!
A homemade cranberry glaze cooks for a few hours in your slow cooker and then you can throw the turkey meatballs in and let them get all glazed up.
This was my first attempt at making homemade cranberry sauce…because honestly, my favorite kind is the stuff out of the can. I know, it hurts some people to hear me say that but I can’t help it. It’s what I had growing up and it stuck with me.
So I found a solution.
I made homemade cranberry sauce that tastes like the kind from the can! It is better than the canned version, I admit. Not as much sugar for one, and for two, it has a good amount of bourbon.
It is still sweet, with some tartness from the orange zest and of course from the cranberries. I pulled out my handy grater that the nice people at Kitchen IQ sent me to grate my oranges. These graters are pretty rock star – the blade of the grater is extra wide and extra sharp, so zesting is a heck of a lot easier.
So when Food Fanatic said they needed some holiday appetizers, I knew that these meatballs would be perfect.
You start by making the cranberry sauce in your slow cooker. Basically add in all the ingredients and give it a stir. Set it to high for 3 hours and then puree with stick blender until it’s smooth.
In the meantime you can start the turkey meatballs. Pan fry them first – an extra step but definitely worth it.
Spray your hands first with cooking spray before you started rolling so the turkey won’t stick to your hands and make a mess.
Then after they’re browned you can set them aside until your sauce is ready and then add them to the slow cooker.
You can let them go for 6 hours on low or they’ll be done in 2 on high.
