Fried Cabbage with Bacon

Fried Cabbage with Bacon is an easy vegetable side dish that goes with many meals! Tender, sweet cabbage with crispy, salty bacon is the perfect combination!

Ingredients

  • 6 strips of bacon
  • 1 pound of white cabbage, cored and diced (about 1/2 medium head of cabbage)
  • 1/2 cup diced red or yellow onion
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Fresh ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a large skillet until crispy, remove to a paper towel lined plate but keep the bacon drippings in the skillet. Chop the bacon into a large dice.
  2. Add the cabbage and onion to the skillet along with the salt and pepper. Stir and cook for 8-10 minutes until the onions and cabbage have softened but the cabbage still has a crunch to it.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, along with the chopped bacon. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed and serve with chopped parsley for garnish.

Recipe Notes

Store: Store cooled down cabbage in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheat: Reheat cabbage in the microwave until warmed through.
