Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are the ultimate party food recipe! Tender beef with sweet onions and peppers tucked under a blanket of cheese!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 pounds shaved beef (found in the butcher department at the grocery store, can also swap out ground beef)
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons steak seasoning, divided
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups diced peppers
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 12 slider buns (recommended to use regular slider buns, not the Hawaiian variety, however both will work)
  • 10 slices of mozzarella or provolone cheese (you want to cover the filling, so if your cheese slices are small then you’ll need a few more)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Add the oil to a large, at least 12 inch (preferably larger) deep skillet over medium heat. Once the skillet is hot, add the beef and let sit to sear for one minute. Stir the beef and cook until almost cooked through – not completely cooked through – then add the peppers and onions. Season with 2 teaspoons of the steak seasoning, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Stir and cook until the vegetables have softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Open the slider buns and separate the tops from the bottoms. Place the bottoms of the buns on a sheet pan so that they form one solid bottom. (see post for pictures) Add the beef and vegetable filling to the buns, spreading out in an even layer.
  4. Layer the sliced cheese on top of the beef filling so that the filling is completely covered with cheese. Place the tops of the buns on top of the cheese, aligning with the bottoms of the buns.
  5. Brush the melted butter on top of the buns and then sprinkle the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of steak seasoning on top of the melted butter.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the buns are brown and toasted and the cheese is melted. If the tops of the slider buns start to brown to quickly, you can cover them with aluminum foil.

Recipe Notes

Swap Outs: You can swap out ground beef for the shaved steak in this recipe. Instead of sliced cheese, you can use shredded or grated cheese, you’ll need about 2 cups for this recipe.

Store: Store leftover sliders in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Cover the sliders with plastic wrap or foil, or store in an air tight container.

Reheat: the sliders can be reheated in a couple of different ways. Microwaving the sliders is the fastest method, although the buns will loose some of the crispy texture. Usually, the buns are fairly crispy, so this isn’t really a problem. Alternately, you can wrap leftover sliders in aluminum foil and warm in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes until the centers are warmed through.
