An Easy To Make Rum Cocktail

This refreshing and simple rum cocktail is what summer is all about! But honestly, we don’t wait for summer time to make The Nevada Grapefruit Martini, we kind of love it so we make it all year long.

Grapefruit goes so perfectly with the sweet rum in this martini recipe, even some friends of ours that have said they don’t like grapefruit juice always seem to love this rum cocktail. And the best part is that it’s so easy to make, it’s not a problem at all to shake a few up!

The other great thing about this drink is that grapefruit is always available and in season at the grocery store. Winter, Fall, Spring and Summer, you can always find a delicious grapefruit to use either as fresh juice or as garnish in this martini.

Ingredients For A Nevada Grapefruit Martini

Fresh Grapefruit Juice: Fresh juice is always better, as I’m sure you guys know. It really only takes a few minutes to juice a few grapefruits so it’s definitely worth the time. If you need to substitute store bought juice just try and get the best quality available with the lowest sugar content.

Fresh Lime Juice: Again, fresh is better. I’m not a big fan of store bought lemon or lime juice, so grab a couple of limes and juice them really fast for this cocktail!

Rum: You can use whatever light rum you like, not the cheapest brand maybe but somewhere in the middle.

Agave: Agave is a liquid sweetener that is used in a lot of cocktail recipes, you will need a little bit of this is you’re using fresh juice, but omit it from the recipe if you’re using store bought juice.

All you need to do is add these ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice! That’s it – and then strain into a martini glass and garnish with a fresh wedge of grapefruit. I’m telling you guys, these martinis are all I want to be sipping on this summer!

This sounds like a great drink, but your description says it contains bitters, but the recipe doesn’t show that?

I’m going to try this with orange bitters. How does that sound? :) And do you think Cointreau is a good sub for the agave? I have it on hand.

I think the Cointreau adds to alcohol content, though and the bitters did get lost in the grapefruit but no matter. Outstanding drink. Thanks!

So you didn’t mention what your friend from Texas thought about your concoction?
I’m from Texas and It has been sweltering here, so I want to give this a try because it sounds refreshing and includes some of my favorite drink ingredients. But, I’m going to sub vodka for the rum.
    Thanks, Dan!
