A Red Wine Cocktail For Brunch or Game Day

Most of my friends will kick back and have a few beers when they’re watching the game. Maybe a glass of bourbon or whiskey but that’s about it.

But when we have a party or a crowd over to watch sports, I like to have a variety of cocktails that everyone will enjoy. And let’s face it, not everyone is a beer drinker.

But my wife definitely falls into the wine drinking category. She enjoys a glass of wine on most nights with dinner or while she’s helping the boys with their homework – especially when she’s helping the boys with their homework. So when her friends come over at Game Time, I know I’ve got to step things up with some wine…

And that’s where these Winey Mary Shooters come into play. Just like a Bloody Mary, right? But we’re adding some Shiraz to the tomato juice to kick it up a bit.

How To Make Winey Mary Shots

So let’s get down to making some of these shooters. If you’re a Bloody Mary fan you’re going to love these.

They literally taste like the best version of a Bloody Mary you’ve ever had. The shiraz adds a ton of flavor to the tomato juice that I think works really well in this cocktail.

Start out by rimming the shot glasses. I used a jalapeño salt for mine, but you can use regular salt mixed with celery seed and cumin or chili powder, whatever spices you like.

Then it’s time to mix – all you need to do is mix Shiraz together with tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, some salt and pepper and sriracha. Shake it up and pour into shot glasses.

Then every time your team scores have a shot! Or, since we’re talking football here, maybe every time there’s a flag called….

Don’t be afraid to try different cocktails mixed up with wine, it’s not just for sipping. I can bet there won’t be an empty glass on the tray after these Winey Mary Shooters are served!

What an interesting idea for a drink. I’m definitely a wine drinker and this would be a fun alternative for a party. That jalapeno lime salt is the perfect touch too.
