Duck Fart Shot

Once you get over laughing about the name, you’re going to love this Duck Fart Shot!

I had it for the first time over at a friends house, I had heard of them but hadn’t actually drank one yet…

So a Duck Fart is a layered shot with Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream and whiskey. The Kahlua is the bottom layer, the Bailey’s floats on top of the Kahlua for the middle layer and then a good amount of whiskey gets poured on top of the Bailey’s.

Traditionally the whiskey used in a Duck Fart Shot is Crown Royal, but feel free to grab whatever whiskey you have on hand.

So why is it called a Duck Fart? Good question –

They say that the Duck Fart is to Alaska what the Mai Tai is to Hawaii, or the margarita is to Mexico.

It’s said to have originated in a bar in Alaska on a slow night when the bartender and an older woman were experimenting with shots. The older woman drank a few here and a few there and finally came up with the layered shot we know today as the Duck Fart. Still doesn’t explain the name but in the story it said something about how the woman had a very unique way of…well…burping.

But I promise you, the Duck Fart Shot is way more tasty than that vision I just gave you – you’ll be making this for all your friends.

Start by pouring some Kahlua into the bottom of your shot glass. Then slowly add in a layer of the Bailey’s, you can pour it over the back of a spoon to get it to easily layer for you. Then pour in the whiskey – best to do the spoon method for this layer too so you don’t screw up the first two layers you just did.

And finally, there’s no sipping this shot! Make sure your friends drink the whole shot at once.

I know all of you shot sippers out there…don’t do it.

You’ll get the whiskey all by itself and then you won’t taste how the flavors mix together. And when they mix together, it’s good.

Believe me, these Duck Fart Shots taste so much better than the name sounds!

These are common in Alaska, I lived there most of my life. But its called a duck fart because its not served layered your suppose to let them mix a little and then its all cloudy and really does look like a “duck crap” makes it a little funny to actually drink. It is still my favorite shot.

Exactly!!!! I’m from Fairbanks, and that’s how I’ve always had it served. Oh! And the Crown Royal is what actually MAKES it a duck fart, as opposed to a B-52. I’ve been told a bartender at Denali Park came up with it in the 80’s.

This is a good shot but just a variation of a B52. A B52 gets grand marnier rather than whiskey. The first B52 went on Kegs Steakhouse menu In thelate 70s In calgary. Reported but not verified to have ben created by Peter Fich at his hotel bar in alberta. This can be a popular shot and I have had on my menu but the name keeps it down. Change the name or refer to it as a B52 variation and you have a winner. Hate it when bartenders go for a shock jock name for a drink

here in Oxford Md…. at a restaurant bar named Latitude we use Bailey’s, Kahlua and Crown Royal….. I since we are known for our waterfowl, and the Canadian Geese are now permanent residents we should technically call it a Goose fart….

In the netherlands its also known as a B52. We usually put a straw in it light the top layer on fire and down it fast, tastes really good!!
